These bungalows are known as the "Officers' bungalows" and there are 33 such bungalows identified in this area. They have been built between the years 1909 and 1960. These bungalows are owned by the Government of Gujarat and come under the department of the R&B (Roads and Buildings) division of the PWD (Public Works Department). The bungalows here are of mainly two types.
The first type came up, during the British rule, between the years 1911 and 1924, over a span of 13 years. These are mostly single storey structures, symmetrical in plan, and are brick and wooden constructions. These bungalows are located in spacious compounds, with driveways leading to porches and thus to the entrances of the bungalows. They have servant quarters and a separate kitchen connected to the house by a covered passageway. These bungalows were used by the British officers' in the city of Ahmedabad and after independence are being used by the Indian officers' in the Civil services. Since these bungalows are still being used for various purposes, most of them are still well maintained.
The other type of bungalow which exists in this area, came up 32 years after the first type, (in the year 1956) after Indian independence. This coming up of new bungalows in this area, points towards the acceptance of the architecture of the British, and the carry over of the usage of the bungalows of a similar type. This type of bungalow is a ground plus one storey structure, also set in a compound with a driveway and a porch. With increasing land prices, the size of the plot of these bungalows has reduced. These are the Indian adoption of the original colonial bungalow in this area.
