Good
Head back south along Gheekanta Road for 200 metres. Then take a right and after 150 metres head left. At the next junction take a right again and continue for 200 metres till you reach Mirzapur Road. On the corner is the compound of the St. Xavier's High School. This school was established in 1935 by the Mount Carmel sisters. It was soon taken over by the Jesuits, who expanded it to its present form. Until 2007, it functioned as a boys' high school, teaching in English as well as Gujarati. Since that date girls have also been allowed to attend. The grounds are very peaceful and the buildings are arranged around an open courtyard. The main building (on your right) is clad in yellow sandstone and has three storeys and a large central porch supporting a tower. The windows are framed by white lonic columns.
The classrooms are arranged along arcades on either side of the central tower. At the back of the compound stands a church that was built in 1970 (on the site of an old one). Its unorthodox design lets light in from the triangular spaces underneath the roof in what is otherwise a plain and simple interior. The original church was built in 1842 and was the oldest in Ahmedabad before it was demolished.
